8/17-10/07
Finally! We have our website! From here on out the website will be updated weekly.
August was spent learning 3rd grade rules and procedures, how to choose and use flexible seating, and review of 2nd grade topics.
September/October- we started to learn about the basic concepts of multiplication and division. The goal was to be able to visualize equal groups and understand that they can be combined to multiply or split up to divide. We then moved on to multiplying with factors of 0,1,2,5,9,and 10. Today we took our test on factors 3, 4,6,7, and 8. We started our Classic Tales Unit which includes phonics skills, learning how to refer explicitly to the text for the answers to comprehension questions, inferencing, as well as identifying themes and story elements. In Grammar we have been learning regular and irregular plurals, proper nouns, and pronouns. In Social Studies, we are learning all about Missouri, beginning with the geography of our state, it's surrounding neighbors, and coming up we'll start learning to find map locations with a grid. In Religion, we've been learning about prayer, saints, ways that we are a community of faith, and prayers of petition. We also spend 25 minutes every other day on either cursive or typing. In the midst of all this, we've managed to have a ton of fun!
Last week, we continued our adventures with Water Rat, Mole, and Toad from The Wind in the Willows and began to read a short version of Alice and Wonderland. We reviewed the meaning of verbs and introduced different types of verbs. We continued working on fact families to reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division. This week, we will begin to focus on the language used in Multiplication and Division word problems and I plan to give the Unit 4 Assessment this Friday. We have decided our Division Food will be graham crackers and Hershey bars! The students have been hard at work on submissions for the yearbook cover photo contest! I'll post pics after they're all finished :)
Last week, we continued to work on Multiplication and Division, with a focus on recognizing the language in word problems that tell us whether we need to multiply or divide. In ELA, we continued with Alice in Wonderland and are starting to wrap up The Wind in the Willows. The students wrote Spooky Stories based on random characters and settings they drew out of a tub. On Friday, we had a "campfire" and some of the students volunteered to read their Spooky Stories to the class! In Social Studies, we learned about Latitude and Longitude and how to find coordinates on a map.
